Weekly Update 2-11-20
Hello Fourth Grade Families,
I hope your week is off to a great start! My husband and I are excited that tonight is the night we get to use the dinner gift card and concert tickets you all generously gave me as a holiday gift. This was such a thoughtful gift and will be a welcome change to our Tuesday routine. Thank you again!
If your child has had a turn with the Flat Wizard and you have not sent me a picture of your child doing an act of kindness, this is your reminder! I only have 2 pictures as of now and our wizard has visited 6 homes! I can't wait to see all of the wonderful things your children are doing to put a little love in the hearts of loved ones. Here is a link to the slideshow: https://docs.google.com/ presentation/d/ 1oHMHMAehdmMEtc5jzK8LiSyBRTocE aaPAM4GvIMMWek/edit?usp= sharing
I will continue to update it as we get more pictures! Thank you!
On Friday we will celebrate Valentine's Day with a class party. It will begin at 2:20 pm following last recess. All are welcome to join us for the fun! If your child chooses to give valentine cards to classmates, please make sure they have one for all students. The list of names is on the blog post from 1/28/20. https://staceygoodman.blogspot.com/2020/01/weekly-update-1-28-20.html
Your child should bring a bag or box to school on Friday to hold cards. This should be small enough to fit on the student desk.
I will submit the February book order on Thursday (and possibly later if you need a few extra days)! Our class code for online ordering is HB4N7.
There will be no school next Monday or Tuesday due to Mid Winter Break. Enjoy the extra time with your families!
Keep up the good work on math homework! We are adding and subtracting fractions and additional practice at home really helps students to be successful. This unit is the foundation to the work we'll be doing next so it is crucial that students understand this. Mr. Saunders' math page continues to be a great resource for homework help! https://mr-saunders.com/math-4/
Our Second Continental Congress debate on Friday was one of the coolest student activities I've done in all my years of teaching. The best part- it was completely student led! I was the moderator as the Patriots and Loyalists debated if the Colonies should become separate from the British Empire. Many good claims and rebuttals were shared. Students had done lots of research before the debate and some even prepared arguments against the position of the other side. The quality of research was evident in the thoughtful things students had to say. Enjoy pictures from the fun below.

Weekly Update 2-4-20
Hello Fourth Grade Families,
I can't believe it is already February! We have a big week ahead. Tomorrow we will watch our classmates shine as the cast and crew members of Frozen Jr. We expect this to take most of the afternoon. On Thursday we will take our Earth Science assessment. A study guide was sent home yesterday. We are looking forward to our physical science unit beginning next week.
Yesterday our class launched the Flat Wizard project to promote acts of kindness. Your child will receive the wizard for an evening (I will be going in alphabetical order, last name) sometime during the months of February or March. We ask that you email a picture of your child (to me) performing an act of kindness with the wizard. I will compile all photos in a class slideshow that I will share with all of you before spring break. I look forward to hearing about all of the wonderful and kind things our students will do!
The February book order is coming home today. Please have orders returned by February 13th! Our class code is HB4N7 if you're interested in ordering online.
Next Tuesday we will begin winter MAP testing. We will take the MAP-Reading on February 11th and the MAP- Math on February 25th.
I hope to see you on February 14th at 2:20 for our Valentine's Day party! See my last blog post for more information.
In reading the students were split into two groups: loyalists and patriots. We are preparing for a debate that will use claim and evidence to support each side. Later this week we will hold a mock Second Continental Congress where we will take turns sharing our claims and debating the merits of each side.
In math we have been enjoying adding fractions with a common denominator. This is a brief break from some of the more challenging work we've done in math recently. Keep up the hard work on homework!
In science we wrapped up our Earth Science unit with an oil spill. Our scientists worked together to clean up the spills in an innovative way. Check out the pictures below.
Some of our students were brave enough to share their legend (from social studies) with our kindergarten reading buddies. The students are becoming impressive storytellers!
