Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello Second Grade Families,
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with your families. Enjoy the extra time to rest and relax. Yesterday I sent home a Thanksgiving interview. This is something you can choose to do (or not do) with a family member during the long weekend. If you already sent it back to school, that's okay too! The goal is to get the second graders asking questions and having conversations with relatives during the holiday. It is always powerful to gain perspective and think about how others lived.

This week we talked about things that we are thankful for. We all are so fortunate! I am thankful for all of you and your wonderful children. Have a fantastic break!

Thankful Pie.
We read Arthur's Thanksgiving and learned how to draw Arthur.
Magic 10!
Mrs. Sarjeant's class taught us a math magic trick.
Have your second grader teach you this trick over the weekend!

Sincerely,
Stacey

Updates and Mystery Readers!

We have had an exciting week with two Mystery Readers already! Please feel free to contact me if the normal time doesn't work for you, we can always make time to listen to you read!

We have been learning some fun games in math that require the use of a deck of cards. If you have any extra playing cards around the house, consider donating them to our class to use to play the games. Thank you!

Weekend News 11-10-16

The Hello Second Grade Families,

Thank you for meeting with me during parent/teacher conferences. It is never enough time to chat, but I love having a touch point with each family to celebrate the hard work and success that each child is experiencing in second grade. Because of conferences, there will be no school tomorrow. Enjoy the long weekend with your child!

Next Tuesday, November 15, we will be walking to Clark Home for our first visit with the residents. I would love to have a few parents join us on our walk.  If you are available, please let me know! We will leave Wealthy at 9:40 and return around 11:15.

I will be submitting the November Scholastic Book Order on Thursday November 17th. Please have orders turned in by that morning. Thank you!

Congratulations on creating a beautiful display of feathers for Turkey Tom. He looks lovely and happy:)

There will be no school on November 23-27 due to Thanksgiving break.

This week in second grade:

In reading we began reading nonfiction and learning strategies to help grow knowledge. We learned that we can read everything around us! We read maps, globes, and even pennies!

In writing we completed our narrative unit and produced a complete story. I will save these for when the students visit the Wizarding Press (publishing center) in a few weeks.

In math we completed Chapter 3. We will be taking the test on Monday. Please take a few moments this weekend to go over the chapter review to make sure your child is prepared for the assessment. Thank you!

In social studies we learned about maps and grids. We enjoyed playing directional games and looking at many different kinds of maps.

Have a wonderful weekend!
