Weekend News 5-27-16

Happy Memorial Day Weekend,

I hope you all have something fun planned to do with your long weekend. Enjoy the steamy weather and extra time with family.

We had the pleasure of hosting author Lester Laminack this week. He was delightful to meet and so generous to share some of his knowledge with us. Ask your child to tell you about his or her favorite book by the author.

Weekend News 5-6-16

Hello Second Grade Families,

I hope you've all had a great week! I have felt so appreciated this week from all of the wonderful things you've done. THANK YOU! The amazing door decorations, the delicious breakfast, the sweet notes from the kids, the Target card to buy needed supplies, and the restaurant gift card!! Wow! Wealthy sure knows how to make their teachers feel the love. I am thankful for the opportunity to work with your children each day and will miss them very much next year!

Please join us next week for our two exciting events. On Thursday we will join the rest of Wealthy in the annual Wizard Walk. It will begin around 1:30. On Friday we will be walking with the other second grade classes to Clark Home to perform for the residents. We will leave Wealthy at 9:40 and return around 11:15.

Wealthy will be having an EGRNOW fundraiser on Friday where students will be able to donate $1 to wear PJ's to school. We ask that your second grader BRINGS pjs to school on Friday to change into after our performance. Mr. Woodward would like to students to dress nicely to showcase their hard work. Thank you for doing this.

This week in second grade:

In reading we studied biographies of a variety of people. Each student researched a person of their choice and created a presentation to share with the class. Everyone worked very hard! Students were able to choose their media for their own presentation. We enjoyed posters, google slide shows, and iMovies.

In writing we continued to write poetry. We learned that poets choose their words very carefully. We also wrote nice poems about our moms. Look for these on Sunday:)

In math we took the end of the year assessment! Phew! We have learned a great deal this year. We will be working on the Getting Ready For 3rd Grade lessons for the remainder of the school year. We will have a combination of IXL and paper homework. Please check the homework section of this blog for details.

In social studies/science we identified landforms and features of geography. We learned that we live in North America and share our continent with Canada and Mexico.

Thank you to Michelle's mom for being our surprise Monday Mystery Reader...

Thank you to Darth Vader...I mean Vivian's dad for being our Mystery Reader on Friday!

If you are still interested in coming in to read to the class, please contact me. All of the slots are currently filled but I am happy to find a few minutes to schedule in anyone who would like to come!

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all of our wonderful mothers! I hope you have a restful and relaxing day on Sunday!
Take care,
