An easy way to receive paperless notifications from school is to use Remind! We have a class account that you can easily join. I will use this app to provide last minute reminders about school events like swimming, field trips, and grade level activities.

Happy Labor Day Weekend!
I hope everyone has a safe and fun long weekend. School will resume on Tuesday. Picture day is Wednesday September 5th! Forms are coming home today.
We will take our first MAP test next Thursday. The library opens the week of September 10th. Our class will visit on Tuesday mornings.
The School Pay site to pay for field trips/grade level activities is LIVE! Please click the link to https://www.schoolpay.com/ and create an account. There should be a link to pay for 4th grade trips. You also have the option to send a check ($25) to the office.
On Monday I will send home the September Book Order. If you are interested, this is the best time to buy books from Scholastic! This month, our class can earn up to 10,000 bonus points to buy new books for the classroom library. You can order through me with a check or online with our code: HB4N7. More info coming on Monday!

This week in Fourth Grade:
- We began Reading Workshop and I am BLOWN AWAY by the students' ability to read intensely for long periods of time. We will continue to build stamina and work on new strategies each day.
- In math we worked on comparing, ordering, and rounding numbers up to the hundred thousands place value. We started working in math stations and HW was assigned each night. There will be no homework over the weekend. If you find that it takes your student longer than 40 minutes to complete the homework, please STOP them and I will give assistance in class.
- We collected organisms from the playground to live in a classroom habitat. We worked in groups to explore different habitats and will present our findings next week.

Weekend News 8-23-18
Hello Fourth Grade Families,
Happy weekend! I can't believe we've made it through the first week of school and simultaneously can't believe it has only been one week! I have loved every moment of getting to know your children and learning the dynamics of the class. As you may have heard, this is a special class. Everywhere we've gone this week, the students have received a compliment from other teachers on what a nice class they are.
I appreciate how everyone is respectful and considerate of each other. We decided this week that our class motto will be: choose kind. I have already seen so many examples of students choosing to be kind in just four short days. I am excited about all of the wonderful things we have coming up this school year and even more excited we have such a great group!
This week we practiced procedures for the things we'll do each day. We opened Seesaw accounts which we will use to share work, pictures, videos, and much more. Today you will receive a paper with a QR code for your child. If you set up a Seesaw account, you'll be able to follow along with all of the amazing things we're learning in fourth grade. Each account is personalized so you will only have access to your own child's work. Students may have up to 10 adults on their account so feel free to share with grandma or other important adults in your child's life. There is a social media-ish aspect to Seesaw which allows you to like and comment on your child's work. This is highly motivating and can be positive encouragement to work harder!
Next week, we will begin homework. Expect your child to read 25-30 minutes per evening and complete a math page that corresponds to the day's lesson. We will write a homework checklist in our planner each day and I ask that you sign this before your child returns to school the next day. Spelling will come at a later date.
I look forward to seeing you on September 5th at 6:45 pm for Parent Information Night. Fourth grade meets as a TEAM in Pioneer Auditorium. You will hear about all of the things we get to do this year.
In class we will be working on an All About Me Google Slide presentation that students will share with their classmates. If your child would like to add pictures from home, would you please help them do this? Thank you!
Check out our Seesaw page for pictures of the intense STEM/ team building activity we did yesterday.
I hope you have a fantastic weekend!
