Weekend News 5-5-17

Happy Weekend!

Thank you for all of the thoughtful things you and the children did this week for Teacher Appreciation Week. I loved every note, picture, card, special gift, and all of the much needed school supplies! I've never felt more appreciated than I do at Wealthy. I consider myself fortunate to work at this wonderful school with your awesome children!
Wall of LOVE!
On Wednesday, students have the opportunity to sign up to donate hair to Children With Hair Loss. If your child has 8 inches or more and would like to give, please let me know!

Next week is the Wizard Walk! If your child has not yet returned his/her packet, please do so as soon as possible. Even if you're not interested in participating. We'd like to have 100% of packets returned. On Thursday afternoon, all Wizards will walk around EGR to promote this special fundraiser. Join us later in the evening for Family Fun Night. It is going to be such a fun day!

On Friday morning we will walk with the other second graders to Clark Home for a Mother's Day event. We will pass out flowers to the mothers and visit with the residents. We will return to Clark Home on Tuesday, May 16th for our annual musical performance. Please feel free to walk with us or meet us at Clark on Tuesday. It is going to be a wonderful show!

I will submit the May Scholastic Book Order next Friday. Please have paper and online orders submitted by Friday morning. Don't forget to use your FREE book coupon! See me if you need another one:) Thank you! Your purchases have earned us many new books for our classroom library this year! THANK YOU!

This week in second grade:

In reading we decided that we are experts on our book series and need to share our knowledge with our classmates. Each group created a way to share about their book series. Many acted out exciting scenes from their books, some created a game, and others left sticky notes as a guide for future readers. We then traded series with others so we can become experts on a new book series.

In writing we learned that poems are moody. We added feelings to our poems. Some were happy, some sad, many were silly and funny. We also noticed that many poets use repetition in their poems, we tried that too!

In math we learned about fractions. Have your second grader teach you how to play the game Mingle and explain how it relates to fractions. We will take our final chapter assessment on Monday. The remainder of the year will be spend working on the "getting ready for 3rd grade" material. I can't believe they are almost 3rd graders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In social studies we learned about geography. We studied landforms and maps. We discussed climate in different parts of the U.S. We will be making models of landforms out of sand next week.
