Thank you to all of the parents who worked so hard to give our class a fun holiday party. I am grateful for your dedication to the students of Wealthy. A fun time was had by all:)

This week in second grade:

In reading we completed our Chris Van Allsburg author study. Ask your child which books they liked best. My favorites are The Sweetest Fig and Jumanji. We loved having the conductor of the Polar Express (aka Marie's dad) come in and read to us on Tuesday morning. What a special treat!

In writing we wrote creative stories to go with the pictures in The Mysteries of Harris Burdick. Our 4th grade reading buddies helped us type these on a google doc!

In math we reviewed addition strategies and played fun math games. Please make sure to work on the IXL challenge over break!

In social studies we practiced being a good shopper at the annual Wealthy Flea Market. We also had a fun pretend shopping experience in our classroom.

Thank you to all of our Mystery Readers this week!

Happy Holidays from my family to yours!

I was lucky enough to get to meet Mr. VanAllsburg (with Mrs. Sarjeant) two years ago when he visited EGR!

In writing we worked on adding text features to our books. We also squeezed our brains to add more details for our readers.

In math we completed unit 4 and will continue reviewing addition strategies next week.

Kids Food Basket!
Our Student Leadership Team has organized a school-wide service learning project. Together as a school, we are creating Supper Packs for Kid’s Food Basket. These packs are passed out to area schools to ensure that every child goes home to a nutritious dinner. In Addition to the Supper Pack, a fresh fruit, vegetable and protein source are included in each Sack Supper. We are asking each child to donate one of the following items:  individual fruit cups, juice boxes (100% juice, please), small boxes of raisins, granola bars, or  plastic bags. I may follow up with further requests depending on the number of bags we are able to fill and the remaining items.  There will be a designated spot in our classroom to collect these items, so feel free to send them in anytime. Our last collection day will be Thursday, December 8. Thank you for your support!
If your last name begins with…

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello Second Grade Families,
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with your families. Enjoy the extra time to rest and relax. Yesterday I sent home a Thanksgiving interview. This is something you can choose to do (or not do) with a family member during the long weekend. If you already sent it back to school, that's okay too! The goal is to get the second graders asking questions and having conversations with relatives during the holiday. It is always powerful to gain perspective and think about how others lived.

This week we talked about things that we are thankful for. We all are so fortunate! I am thankful for all of you and your wonderful children. Have a fantastic break!

Thankful Pie.
We read Arthur's Thanksgiving and learned how to draw Arthur.
Magic 10!
Mrs. Sarjeant's class taught us a math magic trick.
Have your second grader teach you this trick over the weekend!

Sincerely,
Stacey

We have been learning some fun games in math that require the use of a deck of cards. If you have any extra playing cards around the house, consider donating them to our class to use to play the games. Thank you!
